What is the purpose of the vents in bowling alleys?

You knows those little vents on the tray that holds all the bowling balls near the lane? What is the purpose of ‘em?

   to dry your hands, in case they are sweaty….

   they are to keep your hand from not getting sweaty. if your hand is wet the ball can slip or your fingers can come out of the ball early.
